Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 · Arrival and Colonial Charm

Morning — Arrive at Tenerife North Airport (TFN). Pick up a rental car—essential for reaching remote trailheads in the Macizo de Anaga.

Afternoon — Explore the historic streets of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (UNESCO site) and pick up local supplies and hiking maps. Drive or take the bus toward the Anaga mountains.

Evening — Check into a rustic guesthouse or hostel in the Anaga region and enjoy a traditional Canarian dinner of 'papas arrugadas' with mojo sauce.

💡 Tenerife North (TFN) is much closer to Anaga than the South airport.

Day 2 · Deep in the Laurel Forest

Morning — Drive to the Cruz del Carmen visitor center. Hike the Sendero de los Sentidos (Path of the Senses) to acclimatize to the laurel forest.

Afternoon — Hike the 'Enchanted Forest' (El Pijaral) trail—note that this requires a free permit booked weeks in advance. Observe the rare giant ferns.

Evening — Drive down the winding roads to the remote village of Taganana for a fresh seafood dinner overlooking the rugged Atlantic coast.

💡 Cloud forest weather is unpredictable; bring a light waterproof jacket.

Day 3 · The Edge of the Island

Morning — Drive to the end of the road at Chamorga. Start a challenging circular hike to the Draguillo cliffs for stunning ocean views.

Afternoon — Descend toward the coast to visit the Faro de Anaga (lighthouse) and the tiny hamlet of Bermejo before the steep climb back up.

Evening — Rest your legs in Chamorga and enjoy the absolute silence of this remote mountain outpost under the stars.

💡 There are no ATMs in the deep Anaga villages; carry enough cash for meals.

Day 4 · Transition to the Volcanic Highs

Morning — Depart Anaga. Drive toward Teide National Park via the scenic TF-24 ridge road, stopping at the Chipeque viewpoint for the 'Sea of Clouds.'

Afternoon — Enter Teide National Park. Stop at the Chio viewpoints to see the 1798 lava flows and the 'Roques de García' rock formations.

Evening — Check into a high-altitude hostel or budget hotel in Vilaflor (the highest village in Spain) or near the park borders.

💡 Stargazing in Teide is world-class; download a star map app before you go.

Day 5 · Summiting Spain’s Highest Peak

Morning — Drive to the base of Mt. Teide. If you have a permit, take the cable car and hike the final 200m to the summit (Pico del Teide).

Afternoon — Hike the Roques de García loop (2 hours) to see the iconic 'Cinchado' rock. Walk across the Ucanca Plain, which looks like the surface of Mars.

Evening — Enjoy a final mountain dinner in Vilaflor. Sample local 'Vino de Tea' (pine-casked wine).

💡 The altitude is over 3,500m; walk slowly and stay hydrated to avoid altitude sickness.

Day 6 · Lunar Landscapes and Departure

Morning — Check out and drive to the Pine Forest (Corona Forestal) surrounding the volcano. Hike through the resilient Canary Island Pines.

Afternoon — Visit the 'Lunar Landscape' (Paisaje Lunar) white volcanic ash formations near Vilaflor on a 3-4 hour circular hike.

Evening — Drive to Tenerife South (TFS) or North (TFN) for your departure. Grab a final 'Cortado Condensada' coffee at a roadside cafe.

💡 Check your fuel levels; there are no petrol stations inside the National Park.
